Would you like to improve your teaching skills? Gain valuable professional experience working with students one-on-one? Learn more about teaching writing? Consider applying to work at The Writing Center. We are seeking enthusiastic, student-centered graduate students with diverse backgrounds to join our 2019-2020 staff.

Applications for our graduate writing coach positions (which are classified as teaching assistantships) are due on March 1. Full-time, degree-seeking graduate students in all UNC-Chapel Hill schools and departments may apply. Coaches work 15 hours per week, are eligible for health insurance, and receive the university minimum TA stipend, which is expected to be $7850/semester. The Writing Center does not provide tuition support, though working here often makes graduate students eligible for such support from their departments or the Graduate School.

You’ll find a link to our application web form and further information at http://writingcenter.unc.edu/about/teaching-assistantships-in-the-writing-center/.

Becoming a Writing Center coach provides a wonderful opportunity to develop your teaching skills, learn more about yourself as a writer, and join a community of like-minded graduate students from across the university. Past coaches have found that their Writing Center training and experience are valued by employers and have described working at the Writing Center as one of their best graduate school experiences.

If you have questions about the Writing Center, visit our website or stop by our main office in SASB North. You are also welcome to contact Writing Coach Specialist Alex Funt at tafunt@email.unc.edu.
