About the position

The Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise at Kenan-Flagler Business School is seeking assistance with data analysis, merging, and programming for a financial research database project. The project seeks to collect data from numerous sources. The position will consult with faculty, staff, and PhD students on specific tasks to deliver custom solutions that facilitate and accelerate academic research in alternative investments. The Data and Programming Analyst will work closely with researchers in undertaking the technical aspects of projects and assist in the following:

  • Consult and assist with database design and management
  • Create new, unique datasets
  • Employ data analysis techniques
  • Clean and merge complex existing data sets
  • Develop code to scrape data

The preferred candidate will be a problem-solver and critical thinker who is able to work collaboratively to assist business researchers. Candidates should have strong programming skills and be able to learn new toolboxes or packages as necessary. Past data collection has included scraping data from websites, using Excel APIs and Python APIs, extracting and merging data from CSVs, and accessing databases, including SQLite databases. Programming proficiency in Python and SQL are required and familiarity with R, STATA, and/or Matlab are preferred. Knowledge of alternative investments is helpful but not required. The Data and Programming Analyst will be paid $25/hour for 15-20 hours/week.
