UNC Visitors’ Center Graduate Assistant Position Description
Seeking a Graduate Assistant 15-20 hours a week/$15 per hour to facilitate and further develop UNC Visitors’ Center Grad program. This program is designed to provide insight, connection and guidance to help potential and current Carolina Graduate and Professional Students learn about Carolina as a graduate student, through tours, relevant graduate information, and graduate student events. UNC Visitors’ Center is open Monday – Friday, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.  and Saturdays, 10 am – 2 pm (in Fall 2016).

The following are a list of responsibilities for the Graduate Assistant:

  • Provide at least 3 weekly graduate student tours
  • Schedule prospective and new graduate student tours; correspond with those being scheduled
  • Provide reminder texts for all scheduled tours
  • Provide assessment surveys after all tours
  • Keep the websites (Visitors’ Center and Grad Guides) up-to-date as they pertain to appropriate graduate tour information
  • Alert academic departments to each upcoming semester tour schedule
  • Recruit and train graduate student guides for the Grad Guides Program
  • Develop new materials which help facilitate orientation for prospective/new graduate students to Carolina (e.g., new maps, apps, etc.)
  • Routinely keep graduate tour packets made and stocked in the graduate tour drawer
  • Build relationship and usage with UNC Academic Departments each semester, and the Visitors’ Center’s information, tours, events and prospective and new graduate student packets
  • Each semester, update Deans at the UNC Graduate School, on progress of the Grad program
  • Collaborate and further develop the relationship with UNC Graduate School and the UNC Graduate and Professional Student Federation and Grad Schools’ Student Affairs Coordinators
  • Analyze and present the graduate tour assessment survey data
  • Other duties as necessary

Applicants for the position should be:

  • A current Carolina Graduate or Professional Student in good academic standing (prefer upcoming 2nd year or higher)
  • A strong and clear communicator (verbal, written)
  • Enthusiastic about Carolina
  • A people person
  • A hard worker
