About the German Academic Exchange Service

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation. There are programs and funding for students, faculty, researchers, and others in higher education, and more than 100,000 individuals are supported per year.

 

Programs

EMGIP — Bundestag Internship: this program allows master’s students in fields such as political science, international relations, law, history, economics, or German to work as an intern in the German parliament for two months

Master Studies for All Academic Disciplines Study Scholarships: this program allows first-year master’s students to study for one academic year in Germany

One-Year Research Grants: this program allows graduate students to pursue a research project or course of continuing education at a university or research institute in Germany for one year

Short-Term Grant Research Grants: this program allows graduate students to pursue a research project or course of continuing education at a university or research institute in Germany for no more than six months

Bi-Nationally Supervised Doctoral Degree Research Grants: this program allows doctoral candidates to complete a doctoral degree at their home university and a German university

University Summer Course Grant: this program allows graduate students to study language and area studies at a German university

RISE Professional: this program allows graduate students to pursue research internships at companies and non-university research institutions in Germany for up to three months

Re-Invitation Grant: this program allows former DAAD research grant winners to conduct research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes, or laboratories in Germany for no more than three months

Leo Baeck Institute — DAAD Fellowship: this program allows doctoral candidates to conduct a research project in New York or Germany on the social, communal, and intellectual history of German-speaking Jewry for no more than two months

German Studies Research Grants: this program allows graduate students who are nominated by their department/program chairs to conduct short-term research in Germany for no more than two months

Contemporary German Literature Grant: this program allows postdoctoral researchers working in the field of contemporary German literature to conduct their research for no more than two months

RISE Worldwide: this program allows doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers working in the field of natural sciences, earth sciences, engineering, medicine, mathematics, or computer science to host a German undergraduate research intern for no more than three months

DLR-DAAD Research Fellowships: this program allows doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers to conduct research in the fields of space, aeronautics, energy, and transportation
