About the position

Lead for North Carolina: Lead for North Carolina (LFNC) aims to recruit, train, and place the state’s most
promising young leaders / recent undergraduates in paid local government fellowships as a means of
strengthening our public institutions, supporting our local communities, and cultivating a new generation of public
service leaders. Fellows across the state are working together to strengthen our public institutions, transform our
local communities, and cultivate the next generation of public service leaders. The UNC School of Government
identifies fellows, identifies prospective host sites, trains fellows, supports fellows, and provides support on other
University-government pipeline initiatives.

The position is classified as a Research Assistant (RA) position and is open to UNC graduate students. This position
has flexibility and would allow for some remote work. Position open until filled.

 

Responsibilities:

Marketing the LFNC Program:

  • Coordinate Weekly Social Media Postings highlighting fellow experiences
  • Coordinate press releases in local communities highlighting fellow accomplishments
  • Distribute a bi-monthly email newsletter to stakeholders
  • Elevate the visibility of the program through developing the marketing and communications plan
  • Lead the development of a comprehensive social media strategy for the following initiatives
    •  Funder recruitment and maintenance
    • Fellow recruitment
    • Host Site recruitment

AmeriCorps Compliance:

  • Assist staff with the necessary document collection, retention, and organization as required by the
    AmeriCorps program

Funders:

  • Use design skills to complete quarterly newsletter and other updates for key program funders and
    supporters
  • Assist SOG staff with grant applications

 

During the year, special projects will be identified from the LFNC leadership team.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Current and full-time UNC-Chapel Hill graduate student
  • Excellent Professional Communication skills- you will communicate with alumni, employers, and students
  • Candidates should possess strong client/customer service focus and be proactive, highly responsive, and
    flexible in a dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and comfort with technology, information and records administration
  • Successful individuals will exhibit the ability to interact cooperatively and sensitively with people from
    other cultures, ethnic groups, lifestyles, and backgrounds, and be committed to a diverse student cohort.
  • Ability to work independently and ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines.

 

Compensation:

  • This award pays UNC base tuition (at the in-state School of Government rate) and student fees for academic
    year 2021-2022, prorated from start date

    • As a Research Assistant you will receive a waiver of the in-state School of Government campusbased tuition rate and student fees; however, you will be responsible for paying any school-based
      tuition associated with your academic program.
  • Research Assistantship stipend of $11,400 for the 2021-2022 academic year, prorated from start date
  • Covers the optional RA health insurance for one year

  • Duration of Appointment: Fall and Spring Semester, work being conducted when classes are in session
  • Required Work Hours: 15 hours per week which equates to approximately
